Alliance with UTSA ESL Encuentro & Explorers Programs

Updated: Apr 9

Introduction

Manos de Dios is excited to announce that as of this fall, two new ESL programs will be introduced to our education efforts in Honduras. With the partnership of UTSA, Manos is launching the Encuentro and Explorers programs.

Encuentro con UTSA

This program is a synchronous learning class with middle/high school students and adults. It is divided into two levels of varying ages and skills. Weekly classes will be conducted using a hybrid methodology where Honduran students will be present at our Manos de Dios Church/Community Center as well as being facilitated through Zoom. UTSA master level students will be leading the lessons virtually. In addition, there will be two Honduran ESL teachers present during the class to help with implementation and facilitation of the program. Some members of Manos de Dios from Texas will join through Zoom as well.

UTSA ESL Explorers

This program is an asynchronous learning class with a total of 26 college students/college graduates and young adults of mixed language proficiency levels. Students will connect online individually using the google classroom platform. UTSA students will prepare the lessons and monitor the progress of the Honduran students. Together, these students will explore what it means to be fluent in English and discover how to command this language.

The Explorers program will take place asynchronously, meaning students will participate online and on their own time.

Communication regarding the classes and their subject matter will be carried out through WhatsApp groups created for each program.

The Manos Ministry is excited to work together with UTSA faculty and master level students from the Department of Bilingual-Bicultural Studies to bring about this wonderful alliance that will create meaningful bonds and generate social impact across communities.
