After almost three years of not being able to visit Honduras due to the pandemic, a small group of five members was able to go to Danli this past June. The two main objectives of the trip were:
1 ) Reconnect with our in-country partners
and listen for their wants, needs & priorities
to help us plan for the January 2023 trip.
2) Check the pulse of the Manos
Scholarship Program including various
initiatives.
We had a very productive trip and we were able to visit with our students and in-country partners to help us understand their priorities as we try to move forward with our ministries in Honduras. In addition, we were able to have some good conversations with our program leaders on the different areas that we will be focusing on during our mission trip in January 2023 to Danli, Honduras. Some of the highlights of our trip were being able to reconnect and interact with our Manos scholarship students during the following events:
Manos scholarship ceremony - We were able to welcome in person the 2022 new scholarship recipients that we had only met over Zoom. We recognized and congratulated the three high school seniors that graduated last November and currently attending college. In addition, we acknowledged the five college students that graduated in the last two years and we hadn't been able to see in person given the restrictions during the pandemic.
Honor roll dinner - Every year we sponsor a special dinner with the top three of our scholarship students with their families as an incentive for their hard work. This year we included the top five students given that there was a tie for the third place.
We took our high school seniors that are graduating this November to three college visits to help them decide on their major and college choice.
We attended several sessions of the Club Intercambio (ESL Club) to see the progress that our students had made during the last few years.
We re-launched our Club Aventura, which is a book club that we started with our scholarship students and some members of the community. The Club Aventura had taken a pause during the pandemic. We had a vibrant and fascinating discussion on the book The Apothecary's Daughter by Charlotte Betts.
Jennifer is one of the Club Aventura members. She is in 9th grade.
Club Intercambio intermediate class: Daniela, Nixia, Marvin, Julio, Professor Jorge, Professors Dinora and Alejandro.
Manos honor roll students during our special dinner with their families and the Manos Team: Danery, Lupita, Allan, Andrea & Leonardo.
Diplomas and medals were given to the Manos scholarship students
that excelled during the 2021 academic year.
Daniel, Danery & Roberto graduated from high school in November 2021 and are currently freshman in college studying Computer Science, Pre-med and Psychology, respectively.
