Club Intercambio (ESL Program) is Back in Session!

In August of 2021, we re-launched the Club Intercambio that we had put on hold since March 2020 due to the pandemic. We are very excited that we were able to bring the ESL students back to the classroom following all the Covid protocols to keep everyone safe. We have also been working in the classroom facility. We added new customized individual chair/desks for our students for their comfort and social distance safety.

Thanks to the Miles of Pennies grant that we received from the Church Periodical Club, we were able to purchase a new ESL curriculum for the Club Intercambio. Specifically, we got enough textbooks and workbooks for 30 students and two instructors. We currently have two classes: Beginner and Intermediate. We have two teachers co-leading the course: Jorge Arias who has a degree in ESL/ Bilingual education, and Dinora Carcamo, who has a master’s in education and a diploma in ESL/Bilingual education.

We are hoping that we will be able to solidify an alliance with the Department of Bilingual Education at UTSA in the upcoming months. John Panther has been instrumental in starting conversations with some professors looking for opportunities to work together and benefit the students at UTSA, as well as our Intercambio students.
