Two Passions, One Ride: Unlocking $10,000 for Manos de Dios

Help us unlock a $10,000 matching gift for Manos de Dios scholarships!

This fall, Geoff Partain is bringing together two lifelong passions—education and cycling—to raise funds for students in Danlí, Honduras.

Every dollar donated will be matched $1-for-$1, up to $10,000. Your gift can go twice as far in helping provide educational opportunities for deserving Honduran students with limited financial resources.

Education: A Passion for Giving Back

Since 2004, Geoff has been a committed member of Manos de Dios Honduras and currently serves on the Board. Over the years, he has participated in many Manos outreach efforts, including vision clinics, construction projects, and community programs.

But Geoff’s greatest passion is education.

He has been deeply involved in Manos’s education and scholarship programs in the Danlí area, including STEM and computer literacy. He has also committed to leading Manos’s ESL teaching program.

His work in Honduras has opened his eyes to the reality that its people face every day. It is one of the poorest countries in the Western hemisphere, with 60% of the population in poverty and according to UNICEF, only about 40% of the children advance to the middle school level.

Geoff believes education can open doors, create opportunities, and change the course of a person’s future. His involvement with the Manos scholarship program has given him the opportunity to see the difference that educational support can make for students and their families.

Cycling: A Journey with a Purpose

Geoff’s other lifelong passion is cycling. This September, he is combining that passion with his commitment to education on a cycling journey through Japan.

Japan is a familiar and meaningful place for Geoff. He has studied, lived, and worked there, speaks Japanese and Spanish, and his wife is Japanese. His connection to Japan has brought him back many times to visit family and friends.

On September 3, Geoff will begin his journey in Cape Soya, Wakkanai, in northern Japan, and cycle south through the country before finishing at Cape Sata, in southern Japan.

This ride is more than a personal cycling adventure. Geoff is using something he loves to support a cause close to his heart.
